"How To Feel Like A Princess"

I came across a great post at Las Fashionistas that offers some great tips on "how to feel like a princess". Here's a quick bulleted list:

1) Tweeze your eyebrows
2) Get your hair done - (does your boyfriend cutting your hair count?)
3) Style your hair on your own. Every day.
4) Paint the barn
5) Take good care of yourself

Basic Beauty

I've gone back to basic beauty - I think it happens as you get older. I've been very brave to walk out of the house with no makeup.

No makeup!?

Yes, not even mascara!

Call me a makeup rebel, if you will. Or maybe its laziness. My office is only five steps away from the bedroom - who's to impress? Well, there is my boyfriend - he counts as somebody to impress, eh?

I do think it's important to not "let ourselves go" when we think that there's nobody to impress. You just never know who you might meet in the store. Perhaps a modeling scout or your next business partner. Nonetheless, when you look good, you feel good...your confidence is high, and you're more productive. At least, it works for me.

Ok, maybe I will do some makeup is offering free shipping! But I will still stick to the basics...just lipgloss, mascara, blush, and eyeshadow for me :)

Fashion Industry: Good? Or Bad?

Since I've started blogging at TheRunwayScoop, I've been feeling this growing resentment towards the fashion industry. I can't seem to figure out where this feeling is coming from.

Perhaps its the continued use of celebrities in advertising campaigns instead of real models? Or perhaps its the lack of "real people" portrayal used in marketing?

All I know is that there needs to be changes made.... like Spain's study of the fashion industry to see whether or not the industry is contributing to eating disorders....

Nonetheless, I still haven't lost my passion for fashion :) We all need to wear clothes, after all.

Top Secrets for Healthy and Beautiful Life

by Steve Gink

There are some effective tips to keep your body in a good mood both in terms of health and beauty. The following techniques are some examples of doing so easily.
Ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun may harm the body by increasing the risk of skin cancer if one gets excessive amount of sunshine in a little time. Despite its benefits, some type of sun rays have been proved to be harmful for skin. It may even trigger early aging, which is one of the most frequent ailments people suffer from today.

Another substantial aspect of this issue to get protected from harmful sun rays at utmost extent. Sometimes, driving a car cannot prevent UV rays from drafting into the body. In order to avoid such risks, sun screens must be used. Degree of harm of UV rays may change according to the daytime or altitude.

High places usually are at higher risk of making one prone to the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. For this reason, careful observation is needed when sun screens are to be purchased. Quality brands whose products protect the body from the different types of harmful rays should be preferred.

Daily water consumption is another factor in keeping the skin healthy and fresh. However, this should not be confused with consuming large amounts of liquid incorporating water in them. Harmful materials used in the production of such liquids affect the body health directly and usually dramatically. People who want to keep healthy and beautiful should take this into account.

Accessories are one of the most striking parts helping one to gain some popularity regarding his/her look. For instance, the type of eyeglasses is vital since its frames should not cover the entire eyes, but they should complement the facial look. Sometimes, switching to contact lenses can be considered as a good idea because they are more practical to use. Different colours may help one to get a new and more attractive look.

Still another technique to employ is not to wear high heeled shoes for long hours in a day. Various illnesses have been found to be caused by this type of mistake. One should try her best to choose looking sexy and living healthier. In fact, there is a reasonable solution to this intriguing problem such that both of these concerns are satisfied. One may try wearing wide and healthier shoes while working and she could switch to high heels when she is attending an important occasion. So as to avoid health problems, one must alter her interests and instant desires a little.

Woman's hair has a great importance in that it gives woman a different look when cut differently. In order to be consistent with this issue, hair stylists must be static; i.e, one should not switch too many hairdresser's in a few months. Having the hair cut by a well known person may be very good for the future life of the person.

In conclusion, beauty is likely to be the most important feature for the woman on the world today, and its importance means much more than it did in the past. Therefore, women should perform extra effort to keep their skin healthy and look fresh so as not to attract the males in whose dreams they live.

I Added "Exercise More" To the List!

There's a website called 43 Things where you can list things you'd like to do in life. It's been awhile since I've actually visited the site, but was reminded today. Right now I only have 27 things listed, but I added "Exercise More" to the list. It's a great place to get motivation from other people to do the things you've always wanted to do in life. There are 1,635 other people who want to "exercise more" too.... I'm cheering them on!

In other news...

I did exercise today...30 min! Hubby noticed that my behind is getting firmer :)

Just 10 Minutes A Day to Get Fit

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't work out this weekend, unless you call consider this exercise...pushing my friend's SUV because it broke down and lifting heavy boxes out of it. I do know that my arm muscles are a little sore because of it :)

However, I was able to get in a 30 minute workout in. I know that we can all come up with 10-30 minutes out of the day to get some fitness in. I only slept four hours last night, so instead of my usual nap, I opted to workout and it definitely gave me the energy I needed to last the rest of the day.

One of the other ways I get exercise is walking to and from the grocery store to pick up a few things. If the thought of being in a gym full of sweaty people doesn't appeal to you, go for a walk outside. Gas is expensive nowadays! Why not walk? (Of course, if the nearest grocery store is ten miles away, I say drive..)

SuperSlow Workouts Helps You Lose Weight

I learned about a new type of workout called SuperSlow in the Health & Beauty Magazine, a publication here in San Diego. SuperSlow consists of a high intensity/low impact exercise method in which a person lifts heavy weights in a very slow motion. The exercise increases the body's metabolism and builds muscle, which helps burn extra calories even when you're resting.

Good Workout or Fitness DVD?

I remember as a young girl being able to turn on the TV and work out to one of those workout shows, but I don't see them anymore :(

So, I'm on the hunt for a good workout DVD (I almost used the word "video", but I think that would show my true age!) If you know of any good ones, let me know!

A Week About Women's Fitness

This next week is going to be devoted to women's fitness... Reason being is that I want to get myself motivated and hold myself accountable for exercising everyday - which hasn't been the case. Hopefully by posting here everyday about fitness will inspire you to get back into shape as well!

Right now I exercise about three days a week, which seems pretty good, according to an article I read somewhere, but now I want to move up to five times a week and eventually work out everyday.

For those of you who think that you don't have time to work out, I think just fifteen minutes a day is sufficient to keep you toned and healthy. You don't have to do an elaborate exercise routine like most people say (unless you really want to lose weight). Couple it with good eating habits and I believe you'll live a longer, healthier life.

For a great resource about fitness, I recommend visiting Women Fitness...

A Woman Issue

The other day Hubby and I were having lunch at a food court and I got up to get a box for my leftovers. When I returned to the table, Hubby told me that a woman was checking me out and looking at me from the shoes I was wearing all the way up to my face.

"It must be a girl thing, because I notice alot of girls do that - check out other women," Hubby said.

Hummm...why do we do this, I wonder? I'm sure I'm guilty of doing this in the past. I know it annoys me when other women do this - not sure why. BQ from Singapore says this in relation to this issue:

"I know that women are very critical of one another. Some men may refer to this act as “bitching”. I am not sure the reason for us to act as such. Is it because we always treat our own kind as our competitors? Or is it because we have such high expectations of other women that we get disappointed in them too easily?"

Beauty Find: Maybelline's Dream Mousse Blush

After so many years of using powdered blush, I thought I'd venture out and try a cream blush. After what seemed like an eternity in Target trying to figure out what to buy, I settled on Maybelline's Dream Mousse Blush in the "Cloud Wine" color. It's everything that the Maybelline website said it would be:

  • Creamy formula provides luminous, long-lasting color on cheeks
  • Glides on smooth and blends easily for seamless color and a natural, radiant finish
  • Air-whipped mousse delivers satin-soft feel on skin
I just tried it on and the little kid in me was tempted to get a taste of it - it is quite yummy looking :)

Nothing Like Some Good Exercise

This year I've vowed to get into a good exercise routine and so far have been good on my word (big pat on the back!) I've never been one to go on "diets" - there's just no way I could deprive myself of all those goodies, like chocolate and I've opted to exercise consistently to increase my metabolism and keep the weight off.

However, exercise is not just a way to lose weight, it helps you release tension and relax. I've found that when I'm on the computer, my shoulders tense up quite a bit. So, I take a break and hop on the cycling machine for about fifteen minutes. Better than a massage...

Speaking of exercise, Kirstie Alley was on Oprah today. Wow! She looks great! She dances as a form of exercise, which has helped her in her weight loss program. Another lady on the show said she used sex to lose weight. Ummm...I guess I could try it!

How to be an Eco Beauty

by Angie Brannigan

How much time and money do you spend on your beauty routine?

Over the years you will have spent a small fortune on all the creams, lotions and maybe even some beauty treatments.

But what is it costing the earth?

It’s never too late to redeem yourself. You can become an eco-beauty with very little effort.
Follow the 10 tips below to make sure you still look superb but don’t harm the earth at the same time.

1. Go natural. No we don’t mean no make up at all. You will naturally look better by getting a good nights sleep and you wont need as much make up as a consequence.

2. Recycle. Bottles, jars and tubes can all be recycled. No change to your beauty routine but the benefits to mother earth are there for all to see. A really simple one.

3. Spring Clean. Think of all the half used bottles and jars of cream you have. Instead of buying new creams ask yourself where you could reuse these creams. Face cream for example could easily be used on the ankles and feet. If you don’t intend using it, then give it away.

4. Be Minimal. Just use what you need. This saves on product and usually makes you look even better. Give it a try.

5. Drink lots of water. The right amount of water is different for everyone but one thing is for sure…. We don’t normally drink enough. Not only does it cleanse our insides but also the boost to our complexion is quite magnificent. Drink more, drink more, drink more… let that be your motto.

6. Half measures. Less is more. When your hairdresser tells you that you only need a small spoonful of shampoo they are telling the truth. Just use what you need. It will be less expensive for you as well.

7. Food for thought. Don’t throw out cucumbers just because they are too limp for the salad. Use them to soothe tired eyes. Look for beauty tips using natural products. You will be amazed at what you find.

8. Swap shop. Seek out those brands that are actively trying to make a difference and change to them. Look for proof that they really mean what they say.

9. Save time? Save the earth instead. Ready-made facial wipes are great for tired beauty fans – one wipe does the trick. But the cost to the environment is substantial. Why not just buy a face cloth instead? Does the same thing and only takes a few minutes more.

10. Chemical brothers. Check the labels. If your favourite beauty products use parabens and sodium laureth sulphate then ditch them.

Both of these ‘nasties’ have been identified as carcinogens with harmful effect on the planet. They can be bad for you as well causing skin irritation.

The above 10 tips are by no means complete, But if you use beauty products then you might as well keep the earth looking beautiful as well.

Health, Food, and Beauty

Part of being beautiful and feeling beautiful is being healthy. And living a healthy life is far more important than the latest shoes you're wearing.

Now more than ever it's important to be mindful of what foods you are eating and the amount of exercise you receive. That's part of living a healthy life. We're a society that relies on fast food for our fast lives with no thought to the consequences we might face.

It's time for us to start thinking about our future health. We're not going to stay "young" forever (although in our hearts I hope we do!). But physically, we should start paying more attention to what we put into our bodies. Think of your body as a temple. Eatings food that are bad for you is pure abuse on your body.

I know this is easier said than done. Most of us have been brought up on fast food and that's all we know. I only hope that it doesn't take a heart attack for you to realize that this is a serious issue.

Here's a great article on healthy food:
