What I Want Right Now: Tahitian Pearl Jewelry

November is going to be a month of luxury here at Beauty Is Within. I will be featuring all those luxurious beauty products, clothing, handbags, and jewelry that we all love and deserve.

Although it isn't quite November yet, I'd like to kick off Luxury Month by sharing with you one of those things that I have my eyes on...Tahitian pearl earrings.

Let me tell you a little story about how I became enamored with Tahitian pearls. I was in the library's computer room a few years ago using one of the computers and I noticed the man next to me looking at all these different websites selling
pearl jewelry. He was looking at this Tahitian pearl necklace and I never even knew this color of pearl even existed! I was hooked.

Pure Pearls has a pair of Tahitian pearl earrings with black diamonds pictured here. I think they're absolutely stunning. Simple and stunning = simply stunning! Retails at $2,345, but Pure Pearls sells them for $469.

The Pressure To Be Beautiful

teen fashion magazinesDo you think media has changed the way we look at beauty? This article at RGJ.com says that women still face a great deal of pressure to be beautiful at all times.

I believe that now more than ever we are barraged with images of skinny women with airbrushed bodies and faces in fashion and beauty magazines.

So, what can we do? What magazine is going to step and say, "Ok, we're going to have women of all shapes and sizes be represented in our magazine."

I've seen a magazine like Oprah's "O" magazine do this, but what about those that are read by many younger fashionistas - magazines like Teen Vogue or Elle?

Frederick's of Hollywood Spring 2008 Show and Finding Your Inner Diva

One of the best ways for a woman to get in touch with her inner Diva is to get dressed up in lingerie. There's something about wearing lingerie that brings out that sultry, sexy side of you!

Last night the Frederick's of Hollywood Spring 2008 show took place at the Hollywood Paladium. The fundraising event will benefit the Clothes Off Our Backs Foundation in Los Angeles.

One woman that I admire for her style is Dita Von Teese, a burlesque performer who was there to put on a performance of her own...

Here are some of my favorite looks from the show...

Of course, what's a fashion show in Hollywood without the celebrities. They came out of the woodworks for this event. I loved these looks from Vanessa Hudgens, Janet Jackson with her love, Jermaine Dupri, and Rashida Jones with her sister, Kidada Jones...

Andre J: An Example of Beauty Within

With the blogosphere buzzin' about blacks in fashion, it's interesting to see Andre J make an appearance on the November 2007 cover of Paris Vogue.

Malcolm Harris, a talented fashion designer I featured over at The Runway Scoop recently, has featured Andre J in the Mal Sirrah Spring/Summer 2008 Presentation: “One Dress – All Women – One World”. Watch the video of Andre J...

This is probably the most inspiring video I have seen in a long time. Andre J is fascinating, so positive, and he truly believes in loving yourself and just being who you are. When he said, "You are FIERCE!", I actually felt that energy! You can see the sparkle in his eyes as he talks and I literally felt his energy transport into my soul as I watched this video. Definitely a prime example of someone who has found inner beauty...

The Great Wall of China: A Perfect Place for a Runway Show

Models at Fendi Runway Show Great Wall of China
I'm really at a loss for words about the Fendi runway show that took place at the Great Wall of China. If that isn't the most perfect place in the whole world to have a fashion show! I was literally excited as I looked over the photos - as if I had actually been there to witness this spectacular event. In my 2+ years of blogging about fashion, I have never seen a runway show like this.

Karl Lagerfeld has really raised the bar with this one. Some may question whether or not it's an appropriate use of an iconic structure. The Great Wall of China is already beautiful in and of itself, but to take all the beauty in plus the beauty of fashion show...Now, that's Heaven. Yes, I can only just imagine how much more glorious it would have been to enjoy that "bedecked in Fendi regalia".

Drooling Over Handbags in the Privacy of My Home

Last weekend I spent some time drooling over handbags at the mall. Tech people drool over their iPhones, I drool over handbags. Take away everything from my wardrobe, but don't take my handbags!

Thank God for online shopping because I can drool in the privacy of my own home. Here are some of the handbags I have my eye on:

The Yves Saint Laurent Large Muse Zip Top Bag is a timeless, classic handbag that I know will last forever and ever and ever. I like to call this the "Power Purse". It carries all the necessities. It's one of those pieces that say, "I am woman, hear me roar!"

This BCBG Max Azria Mona Satchel is something I'd wear with a wintery white outfit - like a nice romantic evening out on the town...vacationing in Paris...

For something fun and sassy, I'd go for this Isabella Fiore Heirloom Bloom Satchel. This would be a great everyday purse to have. Something to spice up the wardrobe...

All these purses are available at Saks Fifth Avenue

Perfumes, Perfumes, Perfumes, Oh My!

Ok, I'll admit that I've become a perfume whore. I've said before that I don't really wear perfume, but now when I find myself in any store that sells perfume, I tend to gravitate to all those pretty bottles to discover a new fruity scent to start my own perfume orchard.

Sean John Unforgivable Woman fragranceThe other day I was in a department store when a lady walked up to me to show me Sean John's Unforgivable Woman fragrance. She said that "Everybody" loves it. Well, it's not really for me ;)

I would love to check out "Heiress" by Paris Hilton because it's supposed to be floralParis Hilton Heiress Fragrance and fruity. I've smelled her new scent, "Can Can" and fell in love with it. As my boyfriend said, "Now there's a positive for Paris Hilton!" In some crazy, twisted way I do admire Paris. She's the celebrity many of us love to hate, but you have to realize that she's human just like the rest of us. A human with billions of dollars. *sigh*

Anyways, what perfumes do you love?

Beauty Looks at the Nicky Hilton Spring 2008 Runway Show

Model getting her hair done at Nicky Hilton's Chick Spring 2008 runway show
L.A. Fashion Week takes place this week, but I'm more interested in checking out the beauty looks than actually looking at the fashion. I do love the makeup for Nicky Hilton's "Chick" Spring 2008 show. I've always liked candy-apple red cheeks (perhaps the apple-theme collection inspired the makeup!), but I'm not too sure it looks good with my skin tone...

5 Anti-Aging Tips For Natural Beauties

It's amazing how many cares disappear when you decide not to be something, but to be someone -- Coco Chanel

My best friend's daughter celebrated her 10th birthday this past weekend. She was excited to finally be in the double digits! In the card that I gave her I wrote, "Always remember that age is just a number!"

Many of us pay too much attention to how old we are and pay oodles of money to fight those signs of aging. We buy all these anti-aging products that promise to help us, however, did you stop to think that worrying and stressing about how old you're getting is only adding to the problem?

In talking to women who still look young despite their age, I've found out some secrets to look and feel younger:

1. Stop worrying about how old you're getting! Instead, focus on the moment and enjoy life right now. Don't stress about the future and how old you're going to look!

2. Exercise regularly - a.k.a. have alot of sex! Hey - that's just what someone told me! Ok, so you don't have a partner to do the hanky-panky with...Well, just go to the gym or do yoga. Just be active!

3. Laugh alot. I think if you are an overall happy person, that beauty from within will shine and make you look younger.

5. Don't smoke or drink excessively!

Yes, all of us want to be young again, myself included. Instead of wanting to just look younger and be this gorgeous hottie, why not start focusing on being someone - like Coco Chanel said. Focus on being someone who makes a difference because that's someone who will always be beautiful no matter how old she is.

Pictured here is Eva Longoria who I admire for her natural beauty...She still looks like she's in her 20's!

TotalBeauty.com Launch Party

Last Friday night I attended the launch party for TotalBeauty.com, a brand new beauty website which focuses on beauty product reviews, information, and beauty advice. I was contacted by Stacey Pulwer, the company's Social Media Manager a couple months ago asking if I wanted to be one of their blog partners and of course I said "Yes!" You'll find my blog listed under the "Blogs We Love" tab.

TotalBeauty.com is currently in beta phase right now, but you can join the private debut through this link:
http://www.totalbeauty.com/debut/signup/form

The owners of Total Beauty put on a great party aboard a boat in Marina del Rey. There was dinner, an open bar (fun!), a DJ, and casino games to keep us all entertained. Pictured to the right is Emrah Kovacoglu, the President and CEO of Total Beauty giving his speech.

I met some phenomenal women, including another fellow beauty blogger, Agostina, a very talented celebrity makeup artist and overall nice person! Agostina's blog, Makeup2Beauty, is full of beauty tips. She also has an impressive resume and portfolio.

Agostina brought two friends to the party and here they are having a great time during dinner...(from left to right: Barbara Baker, Agostina, and Ute Ville)

The Battle of the Nailpolishes

Just a little over a week ago I started the 10-day Rimmel London nail polish challenge, but it didn't last very long. In fact, it started chipping after 4 days - which is actually ok considering the other nail polishes I use start to chip after 1 or 2 days.

So I went back to my old Wet N' Wild purple nail polish, but this time I put three coats and a clear top coat. That still didn't last more than 2 days.

Now I've upgraded to L'Oreal nail polish. Since it is fall and all, I thought I'd go for a darker shade - "Stroke of Midnight". It's a very, very deep burgundy color. I love the way it glides on silky smooth, however it does take about 3 coats to look decent. The first coat was streaky.

Well, I'm on day 2 and it's chipped a little. They don't look too bad considering I wash my dishes every day and I do alot of head scratching ;) Why I still wash dishes, I don't know why - I have a dishwasher! Must be a habit from college when I didn't have one.

Anyways, here's a picture of what my nails look like...Let's see how long these hold up!

Fashion Find: Baby Phat Rhinestone & Leopard Wedge Shoes

Baby Phat Leopard Print Wedge
My shoe collection is not that exciting. I have quite a few heels, but they're all solid colors. There's brown suede, black, copper metallic...boring. This fall I've decided to liven up the wardrobe a little and have some fun.

One print that I'm starting to fall in love with is leopard print. There's something about leopard print that screams sultry, sexy, and oh, so fabulous. Even if you just wear a solid-color outfit - it's the leopard print shoes that turn it into a sortof edgy look.

Zappos.com is my favorite place to shop online for shoes because they have free shipping both ways. If the shoes don't fit - no worries!

Well, I've fallen in love with these Baby Phat Rhinestone/Leopard Print Wedge shoes. What makes these even more glamorous is that the Baby Phat logo is in rhinestones - although I could do without the logo...Still pretty, nonetheless.

Check out more Baby Phat fashion...

There's Always Time to Look Fabulous!

You probably know a mother who has "let herself go". She always looks tired and stressed. All she wears are sweat pants, a t-shirt, and throws up her hair in a rough-looking ponytail. I know, I've been there and I don't even have kids!

I'm not a mother, but I have a couple friends who are. Some of them say that they just don't have time to make themselves look fabulous every day and I just roll my eyes...

I say: There is always time. You can make time.

When I watched my three young God-daughters for a week, I thought that I would turn into one of those harried-looking women, but I discovered the secret to looking fabulous... Get up 30 minutes earlier than the kids. While the house was still peaceful and quiet, I was able to fix myself up. It's amazing what you can accomplish in 30 minutes when there isn't a little one tugging at your blouse!

I also know a mother who complains that she doesn't have time to take care of herself, yet she sits on the couch for a couple hours in the morning watching her soap operas. Hmmm...During that time she could be giving herself a manicure or plucking her eyebrows!

It's all about setting priorities and sadly, many women don't consider themselves a priority! When you love yourself, you take care of yourself - and when you take care of yourself, you have a high self-esteem, feel more confident and generally feel happier overall ;)

The First Rule of Fashion and Style

fashion tipsLady Julianne has a great article over at this second's obsession titled How to Avoid Getting Bored With the Way You Dress.

One thing I've emphasized here before is that you should try to develop your own sense of style instead of copying everything you see in fashion magazines. In the words of Lady Julianne:

"Try to develop your own personal touches, your trademarks.

Small things are the best for this, I think. My grandmother loves earrings and has a massive, wonderfully eccentric collection. She has everything from crocodiles to strawberries, and from traffic lights to classic pearls. You could also have an burgeoning obsession with one particular image or group of images, for example, fruit."
I would say that my "trademarks" are the hats or scarves that I wear with my outfits. What about you?

Spring 2008 Jewely: Big, Bold, and Beautiful

As I go through the file of pictures I've saved from some of the Spring 2008 runway shows, I noticed that there aren't too many collections with jewelry. What I did notice was that the jewelry was big - but then again, it does have to be big to get noticed ;)

Paris Fashion Week: Beauty Looks for Spring 2008

Paris Fashion Week is in full swing and I've been busy over at The Runway Scoop doing reviews of the runway shows. All the reviews are about the latest Spring 2008 collections, but today I did stop to notice the makeup for the Valentino show...

Valentino's models have that very fresh, dewy makeup. I love the pairing of lavender eyeshadow with light pink lipstick and just a tad bit of barely there blush.

The Winner of the Dove & Beauty Is Within Giveaway!

The winner of the Dove & Beauty is Within Giveaway is...

Drumroll please!

Susan Stone of Susan's Spa!

Susan has won Dove's Cool Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner, a Beauty Is Within t-shirt, and a $25 gift certificate to use at my shop at Etsy!

Thanks to all who entered! The people who entered shared some great beauty tips:

Susan, the winner, says:
"My beauty tip for anyone is to remember to exfoliate. Use a scrub once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells to reveal fresh, new and glowing skin."

Payton of The Find offers this beauty tip:
"My #1 beauty tip is to get rid of pimples! I'm in my 30s and still get them. Anyway, if you feel a new pimple coming up, rub a very small dab of toothpaste into it and leave it alone! The toothpaste does two things: 1) reduces the redness 2) brings the toxins to the surface. If possible, do this at night before you go to bed. Once the puss surfaces, you should use a blackhead remover to extract the puss (do not use your fingers, you introduce germs/dirt to the pimple and bruise your face). Your pimple will clear up much faster with this easy remedy."

Lesha of The Stylish Mom (among other beauty and fashion blogs!) says:
"Drink Green Tea - it does wonders for the skin! :)"
