Get a Sexy Hairdo at Home with Twistii

On lazy hair days like today I love to put my hair up in a classic french twist and secure it with one of those hair claws. However, I recently tried out a product called Twistii, a hair updo tool invented by Liz Havlin.

The paper instructions I received with the tool and hairsticks were a little hard to follow (I learn by watching, not reading!), so I'm glad that Liz put together a few videos on how to achieve these different looks. Here she is giving instructions on how to do a french twist roll.

Because I have really long hair, it took a little bit of practice for me to get my hair tucked in right. When you've been doing the french twist one way for many years, it takes awhile to learn something new ;) Overall, I do like the product! It's available at Amazon...

Victoria Beckham: The Fashion Icon

Mention the name Victoria Beckham these days and many of us think "fashion icon". The title is rightfully deserved because I still have yet to catch her in a "No, No!" outfit! I love this Azzedine Alaia dress she's wearing...

The other day I watched a re-run of the Ellen Degeneres show where Victoria Beckham came on to share some of her fashion tips. She admitted that she always, always wears heels. I have to agree that wearing heels does make you feel a bit more confident - not to mention more sassy and sexy ;) And I do like that she wears pencil skirts which illustrates her classy style.

I recently watched a documentary on the life of Victoria Beckham in which she was portrayed (I say "portrayed" because who knows how much of it is true) as a young woman who wasn't happy with how she looked. She didn't like her teeth, her nose, etc., so she did what many celebrities do - she got plastic surgery. There was a time when I would have judged her for doing that, but I now realize that it serves no purpose for me.

Many women look up to her and admire her for the kind of lifestyle she lives. After all, when you have a husband that looks like David Beckham does, it's hard not to want that kind of life and want to look that way.

Beckham recently came out with her own book, That Extra Half an Inch (Read a review of the book...), in which she dishes her thoughts and experience about fashion. I have yet to read the book but I think I might just grab it the next time I'm in the bookstore...or buy it at Amazon.

Go Bold and Daring! Try A New Beauty Product in 2008

Tarte 2008 is going to be the year that I give myself a whole new beauty look! After 15+ years of wearing the same old brown eyeshadow and lipstick, I'm taking my makeup routine to new heights. After all, I am an artist and artists are supposed to be creative and adventurous, eh?

As part of my new adventures in makeup, I tried out the Tarte "We Wish You Health" Skinvigorating gift set/discovery kit. Although I've heard quite a bit about Tarte cosmetics, this was my first time trying out their products. I wrote a review which is posted over at the Total Beauty website. You can find out more about this gift set and all the ingredients in the products over at the Tarte website.

Georgia Peach Powder: Give Your Face that Glow When You're on the Go

Whenever I'm traveling or on the go and my face needs a little "pick-me-up", I use Georgia peach powder by Benefit Cosmetics. I thought it was way too light and way too pink for my complexion, but when the Benefit makeup gal put it on me, it actually gave my face that peachy-keen look (thus the name!) Whenever my boyfriend gives me a hug he says, "Mmmm, what's that smell?" It's the powder, but I just tell him it's "all me!" *wink*

It comes in this cute little box with a brush - a bit bulky for my makeup bag so I have to carry it in a separate area. I wish there was a "mini" version of it.

Spring 2008: My Favorite Looks Flipbook

I recently discovered a website called and created my own little flipbook of some of my favorite looks for Spring 2008.

I'm thinking about starting a "Beauty Is Within" group over there so that we could all share our own lookbooks on beauty or fashion. Let me know if you're interested! I think it would be a great way for Beauty Is Within readers to get to know each other better...

Great Style: Bohemian and Eclectic

Harper's Bazaar Great Style CoverStyle expert, Jenny Flevin of Harper's Bazaar will be a guest over at the Coutorture network and as I browsed through a couple pages of her new book, Harper's Bazaar Great Style, I was inspired to create a couple spreads based on some of the styles mentioned in the book....For a run-down of the different categories of style, visit Temptalia.

If I could describe my style in one word, it would be "bohemian". An everyday dress for me would be something like this crinkled cotton dress that Julie of Almost Dressed featured. I loved, loved Chloe when Phoebe Philo was designing for the brand. Babydoll dresses and earth tones are what I'm drawn to. When dressing in this style, it's all about flow and comfort. I do recommend that if you're going to wear something very short, please, please wear some kind of leggings or even some spandex shorts so that you don't pull "a Britney"!

Bohemian and Eclectic fashion
Because I'm an artist at heart I love bright colors and different patterns or textures, so I can sometimes be a little eclectic. I absolutely love this outfit that Charlotte Gainsbourg is wearing on the front cover of Paris Vogue. When wearing something eclectic, go for solid-colored shoes and handbag.

Guys Need Beauty Tips Too!

George ClooneyHere at Beauty Is Within I talk a great deal about beauty for women. However, I know once in awhile a guy happens to stumble across this blog, so I thought I'd share these 5 beauty tips for guys I discovered...

I completely agree with #1: Sleep!
"No matter how pretty or handsome you are, eyebags and red eyes aren’t going to help you land that date. Tiredness also contributes to poor posture, which won’t help you present your best self."
Here are some other beauty tips for men...

Chasin' The Winter Blues Away With Roxy Perfume

We're getting into somewhat chilly weather here in California and I've been fighting off this nasty cough and cold. What better way to lift up those spirits and chase those winter blues away with this nice floral and fruity scent by Roxy Perfume...

It's a very light perfume that's perfect for natural beauties ;) I especially like the shower gel that gives you a head-to-toe scent.

Most of us know Roxy by their surfer-inspired, casual clothing, but now the company is venturing into the smell-good department which isn't anything new in the fashion industry. Chanel has been in the game for years as well as Calvin Klein, and Gucci, just to name a few. They even have a Roxy Parfum blog where you can play games, watch videos, or even get yummy Roxy recipes!
