Become a Girl ExtraOrdinaire! Interview With Tiffany Bressan

Tiffany Bressan and Courtney Noelle of Girl ExtraOrdinaireI'm always inspired when I come across other entrepreneurs like myself - women who have a dream and are determined to succeed.

Recently I came to know about Tiffany Bressan and Courtney Noelle, two friends who founded Girl ExtraOrdinaire. They began as a wholesale sportswear store on the internet and have grown into a clothing empire. You can find their designs on celebrities like Paula Abdul and Tori Spelling, not to mention the 700+ internet retail stores and many boutiques and department stores that sell for them.

I was able to interview Tiffany Bressan via email where she shared the story of Girl ExtraOrdinaire...

MP: Tell us how Girl Extraordinaire came about...Who or what inspired you to start this company?

TB: We were inspired to start in the bridal industry designing t-shirts and tanks that said bride and bridesmaid. Since we were one of first company's in this niche market to sell t-shirt/tank and apparel accessories we pioneered a whole new a whole demand in the market.

Girl ExtraOrdinaire got it's name because we were two girls with and one ExtraOrdinairy dream!!! We knew it would take a double dose of courage and sincere thirst for success to become a Girl ExtraOrdinaire. We wanted to select a name that girls around the world would be proud to wear.

MP: Have you always had an interest in fashion and becoming an entrepreneur?

TB: Yes, both Courtney and I always shared an interest in becoming fashion designer and owners of a clothing company. We met at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins CO. and we both graduated with a BS from CSU with a degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising. We used to brainstorm ideas of company names and what type of clothing we would design. We would keep a journal of our best designs and daydream about the days we would have the chance to reveal them to the world. Both of us had an entrepreneur spirit and were willing to take the risk of the road less traveled. We were known as students in college for pushing the creative boundries.

MP: What's the main philosophy behind the brand?

TB: Girl ExtraOrdinaire's philosophy is : Always remember there is never a limit to being extraordinary!!! Whether you are a mother, bride to be, sister, friend, what ever you decide to do it to your best ability to become extraordinary.

To be ExtraOrdinary: means going beyond what is regular or usual it just takes a little more to become ExtraOrdinary.....Our brand was created for women that love clothing that show there personality. We created clothing line that is as unique as the women wearing it. The colors are bright and bold and make a statement which is always positive!!

MP: What do you think has been the key to your success?

TB: The key to Girl ExtraOrdinaire's success is attributed to the following:

#1 Daring To Dream BIG!!!
#2. Never Giving Up...
#3. Being Yourself

MP: What's your vision for this company?

TB: Our Vision for Girl ExtraOrdinaire is:

To Change the World - By daring people to Dream BIG!!!! Becoming a household name and sending positive messages out to the world in one tank top at a times. We recently wrote a book called Beeing ExtraOrdinary, which is an inspirational book about being yourself!! To be ExtraOrdinary in our community and to empower others to do what they love to do.

Downtown San Diego Creating a Fashion Statement

The life of an urban fashionista living in San Diego consists of having a plethora of places to shop - especially in downtown San Diego. There is simply no excuse not to be able to create your own style of fashion when you have so many boutiques and stores to choose from.

Fifth Avenue in downtown, a.k.a. the "Gaslamp Quarter", has seen tremendous growth in the past few years as internationally-known fashion brands set up shop hoping to capture the attention of fashion-loving tourists and urban dwellers. From Adidas to Puma and Lucky Brand Shops to Urban Outfitters, downtown San Diego really is starting to make its own fashion statement! Although I used to think that San Diego didn't have much "fashion sense", my perception is changing as I spend more time downtown.

American Apparel Downtown San Diego Fifth AvenueOne of the latest additions to the long list of fashion brands lining Fifth Avenue is American Apparel, the Los Angeles based company that believes in "sweatshop free" apparel manufacturing. What was once the home to San Diego Hardware since 1892 has morphed into wall-to-wall fashion - enough to make any fashion hipster have heart palpitations. There are also American Apparel locations at 3867 Fourth Ave. in Hillcrest and 1280 Garnet Ave. in Pacific Beach.

But what if mainstream fashion isn't your thing? Well, there are tons of privately-owned fashion boutiques downtown plus quite a few thrift stores including the huge Salvation Army Thrift Store at 901 12th Avenue and Goodwill at 939 16th Street.

What is your favorite place to shop in downtown San Diego?

How To Style and Take Care of Ethnic Hair

Hair care and hairstyles Flickr photo by Hannah WebsterI have Asian hair that is high maintenance and requires constant care. I have to admit that I've let it go this winter and haven't done very much to it except dry it out! And as far as hairstyles go, well, I've settled for ponytails and braids - which are getting a little played out.

Well, if this sounds like you, you should check out this article I wrote for the Misikko website: "Do-It-Yourself: Ethnic Hairstyles".

And speaking of hairstyles...

I came across this video over at YouTube where hairstylist Johnny Lavoy shows you how to create an evening look in minutes. I love this hairstyle!

Favorite Looks From The 2009 Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards took place this past Sunday, but since I was in Las Vegas on a mini-vacation, I missed the show. As I was perusing some pictures from the InStyle/Warner Bros. After-Party, I came across a couple dresses that I really adored...

First off, we have Kate Beckinsale in a J. Mendel gown. Stunning. I tend to like dresses that are no-fuss, but this one really caught my eye. I don't know how you walk around with that dress without getting it dirty at the bottom! I would have preferred a shorter version of it. Here is Kate pictured with Len Wiseman who looks pretty handsome himself ;)

Stylist-to-the-Stars Rachel Zoe was decked out looking like a Greek Goddess. Some people thought the dress was a bit boring, but I happened to really like it. It must be nerve-wracking having to always come with your A-Game as a fashion stylist. I'm getting the "Who cares what people think" vibe from Rachel Zoe in this dress. One thing is for sure, you wouldn't have to worry about sucking in your stomach all night wearing it!

I can't get over Beyonce's a.k.a "Sasha Fierce" gorgeous necklace! Her dress is by Elie Saab and that breath-taking diamond necklace is from Lorraine Schwartz. The look got some mixed reviews over at FabSugar. I probably would have worn a simple black or purple dress to contrast all that bling.

UGG Boots – Overpriced and Still Popular

UGG boots Flickr photo by Judith GreenThis is a guest post by Deborah Dera...

Despite the current state of the global economy, one fact rings true: the sales of UGG boots are rising and are expected to do so well into the New Year. Having originally appeared on the market in the early 2000’s, it was expected that the UGG boot trend would be short lived. They are, after all, pretty ugly – how long could they possibly last?

UGG boots have become so popular, in fact, that they managed to rank very well on holiday shopping lists this season. Reports after the 2008 Black Friday shopping weekend showed that UGG classic short boots ranked #2 on Top 10 lists all over the country, beaten out only by Nintendo Wii Consoles and casting a shadow on a series of other electronic products. UGG boot sales increased at least 200% between the 2007 and 2008 holiday shopping seasons.

The UGG boot trend has captured audiences around the world. They’re warm, comfortable, and incredibly durable, despite the fact they can’t really be worn in any sort of rainy or snowy weather. You might expect to see sales suffering, not just because of the economy, but because of the overall price of the boots, but they’re not. They’re doing so well, in fact, that new UGG stores are popping up all over the country.

In New York City, for example, a new store opened in mid-November. The grand opening party featured DJ Mel DeBarge and a special appearance by Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson. The store itself was designed to accent the comfort and materials used to create authentic UGG boots.

Celebrities like Oprah, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Anniston Ben Affleck, Bruce Willis and more have been spotted wearing UGG boots, but they’re certainly not the only ones digging deep into their pockets in order to add UGG boots to their shoe closets. Average citizens Jane and John Doe seem to have no problem scraping up the cash for a pair of coveted boots this winter season as well.

As the trend continues, the question remains – will the UGG boot frenzy survive changes in shopping habits as the economy evolves? Only time will tell.

Deborah Dera is a full-time blogger attempting to have fun while making sense of the fashion world. She’s an avid fan of UGG boots, often becomes confused by the application of cosmetics, and loves exploring new trends!

J. Lynne Mineral Eyeliner Review

J. Lynne Mineral EyelinerWe love finding out about new beauty products - especially those that are natural and free from chemicals, synthetics, and all that stuff that irritates your skin.

Enter J. Lynne, a cosmetics line that was developed by Jessica Lynne Miller. Jessica was on a mission to create a mineral makeup collection that consisted of high-quality products....and voila! J. Lynne was born. How's that for creating your own opportunities!? If you love making women beautiful...what a great way to do it by starting your own cosmetics line.

I tried out the mineral eyeliner in "Tart". I've never used an eyeliner color other than black, so I knew that I was going to have fun with this. On top of that, all the eyeliners I've used in the past were pencil eyeliners.

J. Lynne's mineral eyeliners come in a little round jar that you apply with an eye-lining brush. You can apply it dry or you can add a drop or two of the eyeliner sealer that comes with it for a wet look.

Mineral Eyeliner With Sealer

I took a few pictures of me wearing the eyeliner, but the camera didn't do the color any justice!

Right now J. Lynne is having a cosmetics anniversary giveaway sweepstakes where you have a chance to win one of twelve gift certificates. Click here to enter to win!

Fashion and Style Quote by Yves St. Laurent

Fashion quote by Yves St. Laurent

To start off the New Year, I'd like to share one of my favorite fashion quotes by Yves St. Laurent. He played such a huge role in encouraging the fashion world to think outside the box when it came to fashion design and women's sense of style.

This year I'd like to challenge you to discover your own style - if you haven't done so already. Have fun with fashion and don't take it so seriously. Remember that fashion an expression of YOU.

Love yourself now and be confident!
