Don't Take Fashion Seriously: Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009 Video

Here at Beauty Is Within our philosophy is not to take fashion so seriously...just have fun with it! So, we thought it fitting to share with you a video clip of the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009 runway show (courtesy of Style.com)...

I'm curious to see how these ensembles will translate to the streets. I've never been a big D&G fan because of their controversial ads, but I do respect their creativity.

And speaking of having fun with fashion, check out these Dolce & Gabbana Flower Fabric Lace Up Wedges...

Bridesmaid and Flower Girl Dresses That Can Be Worn After the Wedding

Pink Bridesmaid DressThe busy wedding season is right around the corner! I got engaged last Valentine's Day, but my fiance and I have been so busy this past year with building our businesses that we haven't gotten around to making any wedding plans. Actually, to be quite honest, it's not that big of a deal to me. However, I know that there are some of you who are in the midst of planning your wedding and for you, yes, it is a big deal!

I've been a bridesmaid a couple of times, so I know the amount of preparation that is needed to create a nice wedding. My only wish is that I had a bridesmaid dress that I could have worn after the wedding. I ended up donating my bridesmaid dresses to a thrift store.

David's Bridal has really cute bridesmaid dresses like the one pictured here. It's nothing real fancy, but you want people to pay attention to the bride's dress anyway, right? Besides, you get more wear with this dress than some frumpy, frilly bridesmaid dress that is worn only once and then gathers dust in a closet!

Flower girl dress with floral patternDavid's Bridal even has pretty flower girl dresses that can also be worn after the wedding...

Now it's time to shop for my own dress!

The Hunt for Fashion and Accessories Under $50

Silver strappy sandalsSpringtime is just around the corner and that means shopping for the basics: sandals and accessories. If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you know how I believe that accessories can make or break your outfit. If you can't afford to buy a new wardrobe right now, just buy a few small things to add a little variety to your outfits.

When it comes to shopping for sandals, I look for a pair that can be worn with just about anything and everything. I typically look for one really nice pair that will last a few seasons (meaning that it may cost a pretty penny, but I'll definitely get my money's worth!) and one pair that is "sexy"...a pair that I can wear on a fun date with the fiance.

As I was shopping for fashion and accessories, I came across these really cute silver strappy sandals pictured to the left. This is a type of strappy sandal that turns heads and makes you walk with a little va-voom ;) What's even really nice is the price: £30.00!

Jeweled hairclipI don't know what it is about spring, but I love wearing sparkly hair clips during this time of year. I really like this forest green hair clip...A stunning hair clip created with mixed cut sparkling lime and forest green Swarovski crystals (Price: £14.99).

I really don't have much time to do any shopping, so that's why I like to shop on sites like Moneysupermarket.com which is where I found these items. You can search for fashion and accessories by keyword, brand, or price and come up with a list of products from different online stores instead of having to visit all these different stores to find what you want.

Choose Love and Care For Your Body

What are your initial thoughts when you look at yourself first thing in the morning? Many of us go immediately to those parts of the body that we think aren't so flattering. I used to look in the mirror and feel disgusted with my hair.

Sally McGraw of Already Pretty wrote a must-read post about Self Care and Self Love that just about every woman can relate to.

Nowadays I look in the mirror and this is the first thing I say, "You are beautiful!" And I say this before I even comb my wild-looking hair or brush my teeth! I don't own a scale so I have no idea how much I weigh. I don't have any inclination on finding out how much I weigh because I know that would make me focus my attention on it.

Many personal development teachers will tell you, "What you focus on expands." That couldn't be more true for our bodies as well. Everything does start in the mind. You always have the choice to love and care for your body. If you think and believe you're beautiful, those thoughts will manifest into the physical form.

I'm reminded me of a movie titled "What the Bleep Do We Know?!" where the main character goes through this transformation from self-loathing and depression to self-love. There's a part in the movie where she's in her bathtub and she takes a pencil eyeliner and starts drawing hearts all over her body. Sounds crazy to some, but a simple act like that can make a difference in how you feel about yourself!

The greatest love of all is the love you have for yourself ;)

Product Review: Bioré® Even Smoother Microderm Exfoliator

Biore Microderm ExfoliatorAs I get older, I'm learning that my face is very high-maintenance...more so than I'd like it to be. I can't even tell you really what "type" of face I have. Sometimes it's very dry, sometimes it's very oily, and sometimes it's everything in between.

Well, one beauty product that has really helped keep my skin looking fresh and smooth is an exfoliator.

Awhile back I reviewed JamieO's Crystal Radiance which I loved, but I wanted to try an alternative because I know that there are many women out there who just aren't willing to dish out $75 for an exfoliator.

Enter Bioré's "Even Smoother" microderm exfoliator from the new Skin Preservation line...

This exfoliator features the same alumina crystals that aestheticians use in microdermabrasion. You can definitely feel these crystals going to work as you scrub your face. All you need is just a little bit! You actually only need half of what I put in my hand...And remember to scrub very gently!

After one application I felt a difference in how smooth my face felt. Foundation is so much easier to apply! At only $15, Bioré's "Even Smoother" exfoliator sure beats spending $75 or more for microdermabrasion.

On a scale of 1-10, I would give Biore's product a 10.

7 Tips to Accessorize With Style

Align CenterTiffany & Co. at ShopStyle

Today we have a special guest post by image consultant Sheila Dicks of Sheila's Fashion Sense...

7 Tips to Accessorize With Style

Accessories, chosen correctly, can change an outfit from boring to fabulous in minutes. Chosen incorrectly, accessories can ruin your look. The following suggestions are a starting point to help you choose the accessories that will spice up your wardrobe.

1. Choose accessories to match your outfit, don't buy an outfit to match your accessories. Before you purchase accessories know what outfit they will go with and how you will wear them.

2. Accessories should be in balance with the weight of your clothing. For instance, if you are wearing a suit in a heavy fabric don't wear sandals, choose pumps.

3. Rings are great, but wearing too many at one time will look gaudy. For business, wear only one ring on each hand. Also, if your rings have become too tight they will create an unflattering look. Get them off and stretched to fit your finger.

4. Choose earrings that flatter your face shape. For example, if you have a long face avoid long dangling earrings. The long lines of the earrings will make the face appear longer. That style is better for those who will look better on those with round faces.

5. Eyeglasses are considered an accessory. When you wear glasses limit the accessories around your face to two.

6. Match your earrings to the style of clothes you are wearing. Pearl earrings are best worn with a dressy outfit and flashy earrings are best kept for festive, party events.

7. Shoes are a great accessory and can really make a difference to the look of an outfit. Leopard prints and shoes with designs may be difficult to fit into a wardrobe and are usually a passing trend. Wear them with an outfit that picks up one of the colors in the shoes and keep other accessories to a minimum. Don't mix prints.

Fashion Quote of the Week

Heart“Above all, remember that the most important thing you can take anywhere is not a Gucci bag or French-cut jeans; it's an open mind” -- Gail Ruben

When I read this quote, I think about the women (and men!) who are quick to judge people by what they wear...

I think we should be open-minded to other people's version of fashion. You have to remember that style and fashion is an expression of who YOU are, not what a fashion magazine says you should be wearing.

In general, I think we should be open-minded anyway. Everyone is different and unique in their own special way. Respect other people's style and way of life and you'll find that people will be more respectful of you.

Jaw-Dropping Luxury: Oscar de la Renta Fall 2009

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2009 runwayThere are only a handful of fashion designers who inspire me. Oscar de la Renta is one of those designers. Every single season he comes out with a jaw-dropping collection.

Luxury. That's the first adjective that comes to mind when describing de la Renta's work. His approach to design isn't necessarily innovative, yet he still has a way of WOWing me. He produces these luxurious pieces that brings out the chic and sophisticated in every woman.

Oscar de la Renta Runway New York Fashion Week

One thing I love about Oscar de la Renta's runway shows is that he showcases models of all colors...unlike certain designers who still believe that "blonde hair and blue eyes are what women aspire to look like". I wish I had bookmarked the article I read so that I could actually quote the designer who said that.

So far my favorite Fall 2009 collection from all the runway shows I've looked at that took place in New York, Milan, and Paris is this one. Do you have a favorite?

5 Beauty Products To Be Grateful For

    Gratitude Quote
As I was putting on my makeup the other day, I realized how fortunate I am to live in a country where just about any kind of beauty product is available to me. I looked at my own collection of beauty products...perfume...lip glosses...and just felt this overwhelming sense of gratitude for all of it.

Have you stopped to think about all the clothing and beauty products you have? All the prosperity that is part of your life?

As part of my daily practice of gratitude, I'm listing five beauty products that I'm grateful for...

Lavanila Vanilla Grapefruit fragrance1. LAVANILA's Vanilla Grapefruit Fragrance: Out of all the perfumes I've tried and owned over the years, this is my all-time favorite. Lavanila Laboratories came out with the world's first healthy fragrance collection and seriously, I just want to bath in it everyday. Loreal Made For Me Naturals Eye Shadow QuadTheir fragrances are made of 100% natural ingredients. (Retail: $56)

    2. L'Oreal's "Wear Infinite Made for Me Naturals Quads": This is the latest eye shadow collection that is customized for individual eye colors. I have the Summer Dusk and Canyon Stone palettes and what I like about them is that on the bottom of the eyeshadow is a "How To" tutorial on which color to apply where. This definitely helps women like me who aren't eyeshadow experts ;)Organicare's Energeyes Eye Serum (Retail: ~$7)

    3. Organicare's Energeyes Firming Eye Serum: I love this eye serum because I can immediately feel the skin around my eyes tightening up. I was told that it feels incredible right out of the fridge on a hot, summer day ;) What I also love is that this company uses 100% renewable resources for their products and packaging. (Retail: $75)
Crabtree & Evelyn Revitalizing Body Lotion
    4. Crabtree & Evelyn's Revitalizing Conditioning Body Lotion from the new Aromatherapy Distillations Collection: This creamy lotion is made with Coriander and Lemon essential oils along with coconut oil and tiare flower. My skin looks and feels very supple when I put it on. The scent took some getting used to because I've always worn fruity-smelling lotions, but I really do like it. (Retail: $19.50)

    5. Burt's Bees - Peppermint Foot Lotion: Every other week I give myself a pedicure and I love putting this lotion on after I've cut and cleaned my nails. (Retail: ~$8)
