Scared of the Brazilian Waxing Kit, So I'm Giving It Away

SURGI Brazilian Waxing KitThe most embarrassing thing that can happen to a girl when she's out at the beach wearing her bikini is the "hair down there" issue. You know what I'm saying, right?

Those stray hairs sometimes make a peek-a-boo appearance - especially if you've forgotten to trim or wax them. I, for one, have never had a Brazilian wax, but oh, does it look painful!

I thought I'd be daring and try out the Professional Surgi Wax Brazilian Waxing Kit. I've had it a for a couple months now and the kit is still sitting in its box unused! I'm chicken, I know ;)

I did use Surgi's regular hair remover for my armpits - which wasn't too bad in terms of pain. I've always used a razor to just get rid of hair on my legs and armpits, so it was a little bit of a challenge using the wax. After a few applications it got easier.

Are you a pro at giving yourself a Brazilian wax? If so, I'm curious to hear your experience with waxing.

Brazilian Waxing Kit Giveaway!

I'm going to give away the Brazilian waxing kit because I just don't think I have the guts now to try it. If you do leave a comment sharing your experience with waxing or any tips about hair removal, you'll be entered to win the kit! This is a microwaveable kit that doesn't require muslin strips.

Note:
Please send an email to maria[at]beautyiswithin[dot]net so I can contact you via email if you are the winner.

Becoming a More Powerful, Beautiful Woman

Have you ever walked into a room and seen a woman that had this certain aura about her?

Perhaps you sensed that confident-I-can-do-anything-I-am-woman-hear-me-roar energy emanating from this woman.

Don't you want that same kind of confidence?

Well, I was reading Alexandra's Levit's post, 9 Ways to Be a Powerful Woman, where she shares excellent tips by Catherine Kaputa to get in tune with the powerful diva that you are.

I like this part about creating an "attractive package":

"Accentuate your best features, and develop a distinct look with a signature color, accessories, shoes, and so on. If you don't have the body of a fashion model, then do something wonderful with your hair and clothing. Work on your posture and gait. Think about what your visual image conveys, and find visual "props" that add originality and make a powerful statement."

Although the tips in this article are targeted towards business women, I think any woman can use these tips.

I must add, though, that although it is good to create an "attractive package" that expresses who you are and makes a statement, don't spend so much time with outer appearances that you don't work on your inner self. Many of us spend 80% of our time on physical beauty that our inner beauty is neglected.

Back in my 20's I spent a great deal of time shopping for the latest fashion trends (I worked at Contempo Casuals and Wet Seal back then), and spent even more time worrying about what other people thought of me. It was all about outer appearances. I never addressed my insecurities and low self-esteem - which is probably why I attracted people in my life who took advantage of me.

But when I started working on my self-development and inner beauty, I began to realize just how powerful I am. I healed myself by acknowledging that I can't please everybody. I also stopped criticizing other people and putting them down. I was just doing that to feel better about myself. It's taken years to get to the point that I am now where I have a balance between inner and outer beauty.

So, I ask you...

What can you do today to take that next step to becoming a more beautiful and powerful woman?

Ed Hardy 2010 Swimsuit Collection: Never Really Liked Skulls on Clothing, But...

Although I'm pretty conservative when it comes to wearing swim wear. I usually stick to simple styles and colors. However, this video of the Ed Hardy Swimwear 2010 collection taken during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim in Miami has turned me onto new and exciting things...

Ed Hardy's swimsuits are colorful - which appeal to my artsy side. I never really cared for skulls on clothing, but for whatever reason I don't seem to mind them on swimsuits.

At-Home Manicure Freak

At-home manicure with violet nail polishI'm pretty anal when it comes to getting a manicure. I've actually become an at-home manicure freak because I don't really trust nail salons to keep their utensils germ free. After all these years of giving myself manicures, I would say that I've become an expert at painting my own nails.

I'm pretty consistent when it comes to giving myself a manicure every week. I just can't stand it when my finger nails look crazy with chipped-up nail polish. Don't take it personal, but I shudder when I see other women wearing sandals or flip flops and the nail polish on their toes are jacked up!

Over the years, it seems like I've amassed a pretty good size collection of nail polish. However, for some reason I don't have dark purple (which some of you know is my favorite color). So I was pretty excited when I was sent Lippman's vivacious violet which has been dubbed "Call Me Irresponsible". Check out how it looks in the picture above.

Here is Deborah Lippman's guide to beautiful nails...

Black french tips manicureI've always wanted to give my nails an artsy look, so recently I requested a sample of Nailene's nail art and french manicure kit.

I LOVE Nailene's french tip pen...so much easier and less messy to use. I've always worn white french tips, but I was in a sassy mood so I tried the black french tip pen. I also used the nail art for a sassier look ;)

Yummy Burt's Bees Cuticle CreamThe best part of giving myself an at-home manicure is rubbing Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream into my cuticles. It smells absolutely heavenly and keeps my cuticles soft.

5 Tips For Taking Care Of Your Inner Beauty

Inner BeautyPart of my mission with this blog is to help people realize that you cannot have outer beauty without taking care of your inner self. And part of taking care of your inner self means nurturing your body, mind, and soul. Your inner body, mind, and soul is what I consider to be your "inner beauty".

I recently found out about Marlise Karlin, a woman whose mission it is to help people by experiencing The Simplicity of Stillness.

Marlise offers five tips that are invaluable in making the journey of life more enjoyable, balanced, and beautiful...

#1: Breathe Into the Moment

In the midst of a busy day, take a few moments to find stillness. Slow your pace, breathe deep, and refocus your attention away from the mind-chatter. Instead, reflect on what is most meaningful to you in life, and carry those inspirational thoughts with you throughout your day.

#2: Take Inspired Action

Being in constant reaction mode will leave you feeling exhausted & unfulfilled. After taking a moment of reflection and stillness, follow through with the necessary steps to achieve the goals you set forth for the day. If a disruption occurs, acknowledge it and look for a solution, rather than allowing it to derail you. Notice how your new focus helps you to stay on track with greater ease.

#3: Water Your Garden

Truly acknowledge the people in your life for the value they bring to you and the world. As with a garden, relationships need to be nurtured and appreciated. With even a sprinkling, the relationship will bloom – and the beauty of what is given will return to you tenfold.

#4 Be Aware of Your Attitude

Notice how you feel and how you radiate those feelings outward. If you have a positive attitude, people will not only gravitate to you, but it might even help change the attitude of others from negative to positive. If you are projecting love, generosity and hope, others may follow your lead. Realize how what you give comes back to you!

#5 Make Choices

Acknowledge that you have the ability to make choices that will keep you moving forward toward your overall vision, rather than letting other people, or life’s circumstances distract you from staying focused on what matters most. Choose what moves you toward your goals that give you the greatest rewards – inside and out.

Join the Bikini Week Festivities in San Diego

Bikini Week San Diego
In San Diego, summer just isn't summer without a big Fourth of July weekend bash! Many people flock to San Diego during this weekend to lay out on the beach and soak up some fantastic California sunshine. As I was riding on the train up the coast yesterday, there were crowds of people already on the beaches.

If you happen to be in San Diego this weekend, you should check out the Bikini Week festivities that are going on in the Gaslamp Quarter! I am out of town this weekend, so I'm a little bummed I won't be able to participate in all the goodness ;)

Bikini Week San Diego is a five-day event that actually started this past Wednesday and runs through Sunday, July 5th. Every night there is a different venue for the event. Click here for the schedule of events.

My Twitter pal, Rob of DowntownRob.com (aka "@downtownrob" on Twitter) will be covering Bikini Week on his blog. Stay tuned!

I'm happy to see that there are more fashion events like this in San Diego. You may recall my thoughts on San Diego's first fashion week. Hopefully one day San Diego will be put on the fashion map ;)
