Beauty Product Review: Nu Skin's Galvanic Spa Treatment

Nu Skin Products
Here at Beauty Is Within, one of my goals is to help women discover their true inner beauty. This means knowing that you are a unique and beautiful - an original person. You don't need others to define your beauty and you don't need to seek others approval of your beauty. Inner beauty also means being in touch with who you truly are as a human.

As regular readers know, I often share beauty product reviews. I like to keep an open mind about different products on the market. Besides eating healthy and getting regular exercise, I think there are beauty products we can use to enhance our beauty and help us feel youthful and revitalized.

Recently I met with Glenne Seckelman, a woman who has a passion for helping people become financially free through beauty products. She's involved with Nu Skin, a company that creates anti-aging beauty products. The company has been around for 25 years with distributors all over the globe.

Here is a video that provides an overview of Nu Skin's exclusive ageLOC Science which is based on discovering the internal sources of aging...

Glenne did a demonstration of Nu Skin's Galvanic Spa which is supposed to remove impurities and promote cellular energy on your face. You can also use it on your body and scalp, but I didn't go that far with the demonstration. Glenne only did the treatment on one side of my face so that we could make a comparison afterwards.

In order to use the Galvanic Spa, first you have to wash your face and apply a pre-treatment gel. Then you use the hand tool to massage your face until it beeps to let you know it's done doing its job. This hand device resembles a man's shaver...

Galvanic Spa Hand Tool

After the pre-treatment Glenne applied another gel on my face and used the hand tool again. You have to sweep the tool in an upward motion to lift the skin up.

The Results

I did notice a difference in my face after the treatment. My laugh line and the wrinkles in my forehead were not as visible as the other side of my face.

Glenne showed me a Before & After picture of a woman who had been using the Galvanic Spa treatment on her face for 9 weeks...

I would have to try this product for a few months to get a feel if it really works for me. I did a search to see what other people are saying about it, and the reviews have been half good and half bad. My boyfriend didn't seem to notice a difference except that he said the skin on the treated side looked red. I wonder if that was from the skin cells being rejuvenated. The redness did go away the next day.

This is one of those products that you have to try for yourself to see if it will work for you. Some reviews mentioned that the Galvanic Spa was a bit pricey ($350) plus you have to buy the treatment gels separately. But then, when you go to the spa, you end up spending $100 or more on a facial anyway. And if you get a facial every month, well, that can get expensive too...

If you have tried Nu Skin's Galvanic Spa, I'd love to hear your thoughts about it...

Christian Siriano Fall/Winter 2010: Fierce As Usual

Christian Siriano backstage at his Fall 2010 showWhen Christian Siriano was a contestant on Season four of Project Runway, I had a very strong feeling that he would make it big. To this day I still love all of his collections including the Fall/Winter 2010 collection shown at New York Fashion Week.

Everything that Christian Siriano puts out epitomizes the "Fierce" philosophy that he is well-known for.

I've been pouring over photos and videos from New York Fashion Week these past couple days and I have to say that his fall collection is in my top 3 favorites so far. The collection is 1960's parisian-inspired which is full of glamour and fierceness.

Here's a video of Christian's show at Bryant Park...

I love the hairstyles done by Aveda, especially this updo...

Beauty Tips: It's the Little Things That Count

Beauty TipsIt's been a busy week and a half for me - so busy, in fact, that most of time I didn't really have time to put on makeup. I would roll out of bed and start on the project I was working on. So I apologize for the lack of posts here!

Well, I finally gave myself a facial yesterday and saw all the dead skin that had accumulated on my face! Eeek!

What I discovered this week from Women's Health magazine is that there are little things you can do to boost your potential throughout the day. Some of these things can be done in less than a minute!

Here's the beautifying routine they suggest:

Morning
  • To de-puff eyes, try keeping a caffeinated eye gel in the fridge and dabbing it on first thing every morning. Using your finger, pat from the outer to inner corner of each eye. Try Origins GinZing ($29.50, origins.com)
  • Sprinkle baking soda on a toothbrush and gently buff your lips to remove dry, flaky skin.
  • About 20 minutes before you head out the door, dab on a grape-size blob of moisturizer with SPF 30. Look for a product that contains moisturizers such as glycerin or ceramides which help trap moisture in skin cells. Try Olay Professional Pro-X Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30 ($42, drugstore.com)
Noon
  • Dust your face with mineral powder sunscreen to keep oil in check and reboot your SPF. A clear powder that provides long-lasting protection can be gentle enough for those with rosacea or eczema. Try Colorescience Pro Sunforgettable SPF 30 ($50, amazon.com)
Late Afternoon
  • Breathe life back into your complexion by spritzing on a light moisturizing face spray. The cooling blast of hydration will be energizing plus some sprays contain skin-healthy antioxidants which block free radicals from damaging your skin. Try Sircuit Skin Molecular Mist ($36, sircuitskin.com)
Night
  • To remove makeup, reach for textured cleansing wipes which will cut through the day’s oil, grime and sunscreen and gently exfoliate at the same time. Try Aveen Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads ($8, cvs.com)
  • Deeper exfoliation twice per week will rid your skin of dulling dead-cell buildup. Use a scrub with glycolic or salicylic acid and buff gently in a circular motion. Try Biore Even Smoother Microderm Exfoliator ($14, target.com)
  • Use a night cream with glycerin or hyaluronic acid and peptides. Try Clinique Youth Surge Age Decelerating Night Moisturizer ($48.50, at Sephora stores)
  • Once a week, apply a nutrient-rich moisture mask to your hands and feet, and wear cotton gloves and socks overnight. Try Manicure/Pedicure by OPI White Tea Mask ($15, opi.com for stores).

LeSportsac Keeps You Organized (Giveaway!)

Back in my younger years I was a bit of a neat freak. Nowadays I'm learning how to not let a little disorganization stress me out. However, when it comes to the little things like jewelry and papers, I'm still a neat freak ;)

I've mentioned before that I have a black LeSportsac laptop bag that I've had for several years now. I love it because it has so many compartments to keep all my papers, pens, cameras, and electronic chargers organized. Not to mention that it has held up really well despite it being thrown around everywhere!

I gave a flight attendant friend a LeSportsac makeup bag a couple years ago which she uses for holding all her small electronic gadgets when she's working and traveling all around the world. That little bag still looks brand new...

As an artist who loves anything colorful, I appreciate everything that LeSportsac has to offer. So, if you're a fan of LeSportsac like I am, you'll be excited about this giveaway!

Change Is Good: The New Look of Caress

I don't know about you, but I thrive on change. When it comes to hairstyles, I like to change it up once in awhile. I love the changing of seasons - especially from summer to fall so that I can start layering clothes.

Change is good. It allows us to experience new things and feel more vibrant, healthy, and energetic. It's that feeling you get when you get a brand new pair of shoes. There's more pep in your step, right?

One of the beauty brands that I grew up with that has changed with the times is Caress. That peach-colored bar of soap was a staple in my household.

I remember this Caress commercial from the 80's....

Nowadays Caress has new products including the "Evenly Gorgeous" line. I have the exfoliating body wash in Burnt Brown Sugar which smells absolutely divine on my skin.

Caress Body Wash

It's important for beauty brands to evolve and change, otherwise they get lost in the dizzying array of products that are available now. It's nice to see that Caress is standing the test of time.

What about you... Do you like change?
