Friday Fashion Funny: Window Display in Las Vegas

Mannequin With WigWhen I worked for Wet Seal, my favorite part of the job was visual displays and merchandising. If I were ever to go back to the corporate world, I probably would be a visual merchandiser.

One of my favorite things to do when I'm traveling is to take pictures of window displays. During a recent trip to Las Vegas, I was walking by a few shops enjoying the window displays of Chanel and Bottega Veneta...Then I came across this window display pictured here to the right.

Tell me, does the placement of the wig on this mannequin look a little bit off?!? I wish I could remember which store this is, but it slipped my mind.

The Chanel window display was my favorite...I'm a little partial to displays with art and flowers, however, generally I've always liked Chanel's displays.

30 Day Hairstyle Challenge - Part One

I often hear women complain about how they "don't have time" to do their hair in the morning. I'll admit that I used to be one of those women. As many of you know, I tend to hide my hair underneath hats and bandanas...or I settle for a simple ponytail.

As I said last week, I am going to challenge myself to do a different hairstyle each day for the next few weeks. Actually, I've extended it to a 30-day challenge which I started just yesterday.

I started off the challenge with a very simple ponytail with a twist: a small side braid... Total time to do my hair:  5 minutes!  Ok, so I didn't deviate much from my regular ponytail, but it's something different, right?

I really love the ponytail holders that Goody let me sample.  They don't put any stress on my hair.

Today's hairstyle took less than 10 minutes and I only needed three tools:

1)  Tresemme Hairspray (Bought at Target for around $3.50)
2)  Hot Tools Professional Ceramic Curling Iron (Bought at a beauty supply store in San Francisco for $65)
3)  Goody Colour Collection Hairclips (Sample from Goody)

First, I lightly sprayed my hair with the hairspray to add a little texture to my hair. Next, I curled my hair with the iron and brushed out the curls with my fingers to create waves. Last, I created a side part and held it in place with two hairclips. Voila! A cute spring hairstyle ;)

Who says that you have to spend an hour to create a cute hairstyle?

Do you have a 10 minute or less hairstyle to share?  I've created a Flickr group called the "30 Day Hairstyle Challenge" where you can take the challenge and post pictures of your hairstyles to the group.

World Water Day: The Healing and Beauty Benefits of Water

As much as I love coffee, there is one liquid that I cannot do without: Water.

There are many beauty and health benefits of water including:
  • A radiant complexion
  • It flushes out toxins from your body
  • Increased energy and vitality
  • Improves circulation and blood flow

For me, there is nothing like taking a nice, warm shower after a busy, stressful day.  I feel much more centered and relaxed after a shower.

Today is World Water Day where people all over are helping to raise awareness of the global water crisis, one of the largest public health issues of our time. As I was taking a shower this morning and the water washed over my body, I thought about how fortunate and blessed I am to be able to have clean, running water.  It's something that many of us take for granted.

Water is vital to everyone's health and well-being.  You probably already know that our bodies are made up of 70% water.  But did you know that there are so many people around the world who do not even have access to clean water to drink, much less have water to shower with or cook food with?  I'm reminded of some of my family who live up in a small barrio in the Philippines.  When I visited, we had to pump water from a well outside the house, and if we needed hot water we had to boil it on the stove

Nature’s Gate has partnered with WaterAid America, an international non-profit which helps poor communities in Asia and Africa gain access to sustainable supplies of safe, clean water. To learn how you can help, visit www.wateraidamerica.org.

Artistic Clothing That Brings Out the Inner Artist

artistic clothing

As an artist, I am inspired when I see artistic clothing. It's easy to create just a plain ole shirt or blouse, but a piece of clothing with a unique design imprinted on it has a wow factor.

Today I was inspired by a few things I saw on Luello's website. For those of you who are aspiring designers, perhaps these designs will inspire you as well...And for those of you who just appreciate artistic clothing, maybe you'll find something new to add to your spring wardrobe.

I've always liked the fleur de lis, so the v-neck tee pictured below by Sinful Clothing caught my eye. I don't know about you, but whenever I see designs like this, I just want to whip out my sketch book and create my own design.

You could wear this t-shirt with a cute hat, a long string of pearls, a pair of nice jeans, and you're ready to go!

I also love this hoodie by Affliction Clothing...

2010 Prom Dresses and Living Vicariously Through Celebrities

2010 Prom Dresses
Prom season 2010 is just about here, and it's been years..and years...and years since I've been in high school. I know that some of you who read my blog are still in high school, so I thought I'd share a few prom dresses that I like and would actually wear now if I had a fancy party to go to.

I was thinking about writing a post about trends for prom dresses or homecoming dresses, but if you know me by now, you'll understand when I say that trends don't exist in my world of fashion. If you love a dress and it feels comfortable to wear, then wear it!  However, I did read somewhere that the "glamorous" Hollywood look is "in" for 2010.

I'm sure many of you who watched the Oscars this past weekend were inspired by all the beautiful gowns the celebrities wore. Getting ready for prom is probably just as nerve-wracking as getting ready to walk down the red carpet. And although I don't see myself walking down the red carpet anytime soon, a girl can still dream and live vicariously through celebrities!

So, today I pretended that I was going to a fancy party and browsed through Promgirl.net, a site that has a wide variety of prom dresses, prom shoes, prom accessories, and homecoming gowns. A couple of the dresses I will be sharing here are not your traditional prom dresses with all the fu-fu frills. I think if I could do it all over again, I would have chosen a dress that I could wear more than once.

I immediately fell in love with this long, ivory pleated dress that accentuates the curves. It's available on the homecoming dresses page. This type of dress will make you look taller because of the long, horizontal pleats...

This "Clarisse" prom dress is something that you could wear even after the prom is over - like a spring wedding or a night on the town.  I love the print...

Black, red, and white printed prom dress available at Promgirl.net

This next dress reminds of old Hollywood glamour - classic and elegant.  I especially love the embellishments...

Besides all of the gorgeous and affordable dresses that Promgirl.net has on their website, they also have articles and resources to help you look your best for that special night including makeup tips. They even have workout tips for the "prom perfect body".

My tip for looking your best at homecoming or prom night: Wear your dress with confidence! Feel confident about yourself and stop worrying about whether or not you look as pretty or as beautiful as someone else. And don't complain about how your hair didn't turn out the way you wanted to! Just focus on making it the best night ever...

Watches Remind Me of the Beauty of Living in the Moment

Watches Are a Reminder...It's been a very long time since I've worn a watch. What seems like eons ago when I worked as a salesperson I did wear a watch, but I would look at it every few seconds wondering when it was time to go home - which only made being at work more torturous. I'm sure many of you can relate! Now that I work for myself, I guess I wouldn't mind wearing a watch. I probably would wear it more as a fashion statement.

If anything, nowadays, a very nice, quality watch serves as a reminder that there is beauty in living in the moment. Time is ticking, so just enjoy every second that you have on this Earth...

Recently I went shopping with my brother who has been on the hunt for the perfect watch. After looking at dozens of watches, I've come to the conclusion that men's watches are much more fashionable than women's watches.

I browsed through ShopNBC's website and came across a few really nice men's watches. My favorite is this rose-toned stainless steel creation by Swiss Legend. It reminds me of a Rolex watch I've been eyeing - but without the Rolex price! (Click on the image below for details about the watch).
I also like this very unique looking Stuhrling Original men's watch (Click on image for details)...

What I like about shopping on ShopNBC's website is that they offer what is called "Value Pay" where you can pay in installments on select items. This is especially helpful if you're on a budget. I recall buying my first computer 9 years ago on ShopNBC. However, it's amazing all the cute fashion and accessories you can find on their website!

Birthday Bash Giveaway #2: Havaianas Flip-Flops

Havaianasus flip flops
Being a Southern Californian, not a day goes by that I don't come across someone wearing flip flops. It's THE standard footwear in this laid-back, warm, and sunny state. And even when it's cold and rainy, you'll still see people walking around in flip-flops!

Personally, I don't care too much for flip-flops when I'm out and about because it seems like people manage to go out of their way to step on my toes. I could be the only person walking down an aisle in the grocery store and someone else will come walking down the aisle only to step on my toes!

So nowadays I keep the flip flop wearing at home or at the beach...

I actually used to think flip flops were boring, but there are companies who have added their own little twist to make them more appealing.

Companies like Havaianas have created a plethora of different styles of flip flops, including Brazilian flip flops. Not only to do they offer womens sandals, but they have sandals for men, kids, and babies too. Even if you don't visit their site for the flip-flops, check it out just for the vibrant, colorful art!

However, you may not even have to buy a pair because you can win a pair in my birthday bash giveaway :)

It's My Birthday This Month! Celebrate With Me...

Forget crying! I'm turning 36 at the end of this month (March 28 - to be exact!) and it's going to be a month of happiness and celebration!

Well, every month - heck, every single day should be full of happiness. Many women my age would be crying because they're getting older, but not me! It may sound cliche to say this, but age ain't nothin' but a number. Age is a state of mind and frankly speaking, I'm not ready to grow up yet!

So, will you celebrate my birthday with me?

This month is full of goodies to be given away for my birthday celebration...

If you're not already subscribed to this blog, I highly recommend doing so right now so that you don't miss out on all the goodness!

I'm going to kick off the celebration tonight by going to see a runway show from a local San Diego-based designer, Eleonore Santos. You can view her Etsy shop by visiting: www.etsy.com/shop/gardenpartyclothing. I'll share video and pictures from the show in the next few days.

Stay tuned!

Look of the Week: Beautiful Butterfly

Juicy Couture at ShopStyle
Evening Dresses by Jovani
Girls' Accessories by Juicy Couture
Flats by Giuseppe Zanotti
Hats at Nordstrom

This look of the week was inspired by a pretty butterfly graphic I came across online.

Of course, I was drawn to pinks and purples which would be awesome colors for a real, live butterfly, right?

Each and every one of us has a butterfly within us... a free-flowing spirit and a remarkably natural beauty that comes from within.
