Elizabeth Taylor Knew She Was a Diamond

For Elizabeth Taylor diamonds were somewhat of an obsession. You can say that they were pretty close to being her best friends. Now there’s talk that her collection of diamonds worth $150 million may be auctioned off at Christie’s.

One famous diamond that Liz Taylor wore was the Asscher cut Krupp 33 carat diamond which was given to her by Richard Burton. For me, it would be exciting to be able to own a one carat diamond. Just the idea of owning a 33 or 69-carat diamond is absolutely mind-boggling.

I often wonder how diamonds came to be highly valued in our society. They are certainly beautiful to look at, but to be quite honest, I don’t really understand what the big deal is about them. I guess until I see or own a big diamond, I probably will never understand.

All I know is that Elizabeth Taylor knew deep down in her heart that she was deserving of all the abundance and goodness that came her way. She was a diamond in her own right and attracted all that beautiful jewelry that represented who she was. She never allowed the jewelry to define her. They were simply accessories to appreciate while they were in her care.

I’m sure Liz Taylor was judged all the time for the husbands she had and those “obnoxious” diamonds she wore. Through it all she remained composed and seemed to be comfortable with who she was. She didn’t allow other people’s opinions affect what she did. For that, I admire and respect her.

It's My Birthday and I'm Reminiscing About Fashion

Today I turn the "Big 37".  I feel no different than last year physically, only a year wiser.  I did wake up, though, and examined the one white hair that's been growing.  I'm afraid to pull it out because they say more will grow if you do.  It could just be an old wives tale, but I don't want to find out.

Why is it that many women go out and celebrate their birthdays, but then moan, groan, and cry about getting older? I'm not much into celebrating because to me, age is just a number and every day is a birthday.

The highlight of my day so far has been looking at this picture of me (I'm the tall one in the middle) with my brother (on the right) and my cousins. This was taken at Universal Studios back in the mid-80's. As you can see, I was sportin' the trucker hat with those very wide denim shorts and my favorite Blueberry Muffin t-shirt.  Wow.  I was such a fashionista back then, eh?

Now compare that picture with this recent photo of us.  My brother (far right) and I joked about our clothes and how we think we look so fashionable, but in about 10 years or so, we're going to look back and wonder what the heck we were thinking.

Beauty Inspiration From Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor Photo
Instead of Beauty Affirmation Wednesday this week, I want to pay homage to beauty icon, Elizabeth Taylor, who passed away today. She was the ultimate giver of love and a consummate style maven.

Here are some of Elizabeth Taylor's words of wisdom that she posted on her twitter account last year...

Here are more inspiring words from her interview with Kim Kardashian in Harper's Bazaar last month...
I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things. But I have never felt more alive than when I watched my children delight in something, never more alive than when I have watched a great artist perform, and never richer than when I have scored a big check to fight AIDS. Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.
Even before creating fragrances was the "it" thing for celebrities to do, Elizabeth came out with White Diamonds, which will celebrate it's 20th anniversary this year.

This is one of my favorite photos of her when she was young. Those violet eyes were stunning...

Not only was Elizabeth Taylor beautiful on the outside, she was beautiful on the inside. She will be missed!

7 Style Tips for Spring

This is a guest post by Alexis Bonari...Enjoy!

Spring has sprung and it's time for this seasons hottest style tips that'll update your look without breaking the bank!

Eyes- Just because it's spring, doesn't mean you have to retire the dark eyeliner! Smokey eyes are all the rage this spring. Thickened lashes and beautiful brows combined with a colored shadow is the way to go!

Lips- The mouth says it all (literally!) Gorgeous, full and bold are hot this season! From cherry red pouts to bare nudes, colors vary in the berry area too. Hang up the sticky gloss and go for the soft, supple look.

Nails- Lovely lavenders, great grays and metallics are all great choices for hands right now. Do a quick nail check before committing though, some colors can wash out certain skin tones.

Cheeks- Blushing beauties are choice for Spring! Rose and peach tones applied to the apples of the cheeks make your smile superb.

Hair - Loose, wavy curls for long do's and sleek ponytails are must haves! Natural and touchable hair is the style, just keep it conditioned and healthy, think beach and bed head combined.

Skin - Bronzers applied to the forehead, cheeks and nose give your face a sun kissed appearance without the sun damage. Don't overdo the tan tones though! A little goes a long way.

Jewelry - Go big or go home! Statement jewelry is super chic and combining gold and silver is no longer out. Choose one focus, ears, neck or wrist to go bold with, more than one area can look gaudy.

Make Money With Your Own Jewelry Business: The BambooPink Opportunity

BambooPink Jewelry Business
Last week I was introduced to a business opportunity that I could not pass up. If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you know that I love jewelry and designing handcrafted beaded jewelry. So when I found out about the BambooPink business opportunity, I was very excited.

I wanted to let you know about this business because I truly believe this business will explode in the next few years. Besides, if you love quality jewelry and want to help women find affordable high-end jewelry, then this is an opportunity to put some serious consideration into. Best of all, it's free to sign-up for a limited time, so what do you have to lose?

Personally, I'm very picky about the business opportunities that I invest my time and money in. I've tried just about every direct marketing (MLM) business out there. I've promoted Avon and Quixtar products only to crash and burn because I just wasn't excited about the business. I basically got "pressured" into these businesses from friends. However, a jewelry business...I can get excited about :)

BambooPink, is a new fashionable, yet affordable jewelry line made and designed by Jude Frances, a famous, high-end designer whose current line is sold in upscale department stores, is all over the red carpet, and worn by Oprah and the likes! Check out their line at

The company has a cutting-edge business model, and the jewelry will be sold through consultants on personal websites, apps, and other technology to conduct “virtual” jewelry parties and other innovative methods. Also, the company is planning to expand their product line quickly to include non-jewelry items that will be particularly attractive to the college-age and "trendy" market.

What sets this company apart from other direct sales companies:

*GROUND FLOOR opportunity --- probably won’t ever happen to you again! Everyone with a business background knows that the FIRST people in on a start-up company are the ones that make the money!

*One of the strongest compensation plans in the industry! There will be at least 10 different ways to make money some of which include: Selling jewelry/products (20%+ commission), building teams, attaining a leadership bonus, Powerteam Bonus, check-matching, Lifestyle bonus (range $1000-$5000/mo), Profit sharing for top-level consultants (% of company), and also rewards in Jude Frances jewelry.

*Very successful “designer” multi-million dollar jeweler making and promoting this jewelry --- so the company has the backing to do very well!

*Instead of growing one sales rep at a time, we can grow hundreds of sales reps at a time with this innovative business model and free sign-up period – but the time to do that is NOW!

Click here to sign-up for free

Sign-ups are free for a limited time, with no risks or obligations… just an OPPORTUNITY to take a “sneak peek” at this company, watch it unveil, and decide if it’s something you want to be a part of (you can walk away at any time if you decide you are not interested)! The company is still forming and “unfolding” as we speak. This is your chance to get in on the GROUND FLOOR! You can win fabulous jewelry and other prizes just for signing up and having friends who enroll with you!

This is an AMAZING, once-in-a-lifetime business opportunity by private invitation only --- I hope you will consider joining me!

It’s simple to enroll, just go to my site: As soon as you've signed up (only minimal details to put in as a free consultant during the pre-launch phase), I will send you an email with tools and tips so you can start building your team just as I have.

Beauty Affirmation Wednesday: Just As You Are

Orange BeautyIt's your weekly beauty affirmation to write down and post so that you can be reminded of just how beautiful you are!

I am beautiful just as I am.

This is an easy thing to forget when we're bombarded with images from magazines and TV of "who's hot and who's not". The media seems to dictate who is beautiful and we buy into that ideal.

Please remember that you are beautiful just the way you are. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!

Staying Consistent with an Exercise Routine: When All Else Fails

Add exercise to your To Do list!
One of my goals over the next month is to lose some of the belly fat and to tone my muscles. I've already accepted that I can't have the same body I did when I was 21, so there's no use focusing on that anymore.

In a past post I offered tips on how you can stay motivated and inspired to exercise. Although I do practice what I preach, I have to admit that I still haven't been consistent with my exercise routine.

I've tried working out with my best friend so that I could have someone to be accountable to, but she likes to work out during the early morning and I'm just NOT a morning person.

I tend to make excuses for not working out - the most common one being, "I don't have the time." However, after taking inventory of the time I spend watching TV, I know that's a lame excuse. If I have the time to watch 2 hours of basketball (if not more) each week, then I have the time to actually go out and play basketball.

Well, just last week I figured out what works for me to exercise on a consistent basis. I have no idea why I never thought of it before...

I've incorporated exercise in my "To Do" list! When I write it down in my schedule, I'm more likely to exercise. I'm someone who thrives on completing things on a daily "To Do" list, so I can't ignore it when I look at that list several times a day.

Do you have any helpful tips to stay consistent with an exercise routine?

Beauty Affirmation Wednesday: Inner Beauty Shines

In the Limelight

I've decided to start a new feature on this blog called "Beauty Affirmation Wednesday". Every Wednesday I will post an inspiring affirmation about beauty that you can say throughout the day to remind yourself of the beauty that you are!

I found today's affirmation from this list of beauty affirmations at Affirm Your Life:

"Every day my inner beauty shines brighter than before."

Make sure to write down this affirmation and post it on your mirror so that you can see it everyday when you get dressed, comb your hair, or put on your makeup. Remember to smile as you say it!

Sassy City Chicks Event: 5 Tips For Shopping Sample Sales

Handbags, Earrings, Accessories, Oh My!

Last Thursday night I attended the Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash in downtown San Diego. I've only been to one sample sale previous to this event, which was awhile back so I had a fuzzy recollection of how these events go.

I highly recommend attending a Sassy City Chicks fashion bash because you'll find some awesome deals. (Upcoming events are in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and New York.) I snagged a dress and a top for $5 each!

Culy Warehouse, San Diego

If you've never attended a sample sale before, I want to share some tips because it's something you have to prepare for both mentally and physically...

Tip #1:  Eat something before you shop.  The Sassy City Chicks event had drinks and wine, but no food.  Shopping on an empty stomach makes you grouchy!  This is a given, but sometimes I forget.

Tip #2:  Get there early.  There will be a line.  Women + Great Bargains on Clothes + Free Spa Services = Need I Say More?  For some crazy reason I didn't think there would be that many people, but I was so, so wrong.

Line For Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash 2011

The Spa Lounge

Tip #3:  If you do drink alcohol, have a drink to relax.  When you're surrounded by a crowd of women pushing and clamoring, it can put you in a pissy mood.  At one time I got the stare-down from someone who obviously didn't like that I was in "her space".

Tip #4:  Wear something that you can easily get in and out of.  There's a "community" style dressing room, so if you feel uncomfortable undressing around other women, then you should wear clothes that can quickly be taken off and put back on.

Tip #5:  Bring cash.  Many of the vendors at Sassy City Chicks events won't charge tax if you pay with cash.  I don't know if that's true of all sample sale events, but it's good to have cash just in case you run across a vendor who doesn't accept debit/credit cards.

Sample Sale Shopping

Overall, I had a good time, but I did realize that sample sale shopping just isn't for me... I'm a low-key, relaxed shopper. I'd much rather shop online or places with minimal crowds.

Purse-To-Go Review: An Organized Purse Keeps Me Happy and Sane

I consider myself to be a pretty organized person. Every few months I go through my closet to get rid of clothes I haven't worn and to reorganize everything. I also like to go through my beauty and makeup products and purge stuff that I don't use anymore. However, when it comes to my purse, I've had a challenge keeping it organized.

When I clean out and organize my purse, a few days later it's a big mess again. That's because I only have one big pocket to hold my lip gloss, lipstick, phone, pen, keys, etc. I've tried carrying a makeup bag in my purse, but it competes with my camera and wallet for space.

Of course I could get a bigger bag, but it ends up becoming a bigger mess...and then I go crazy digging around in this black hole trying to find things. So, my medium-sized purse is just perfect for me. However, the problem is keeping everything organized.

When I had the opportunity to review Purse-to-Go, I was excited because I knew that this would be the solution to my handbag organizing problem. What I love most about Purse-To-Go is that if I ever want to change handbags, I can transfer everything out in one swoop.

After Purse-To-Go

I have the Large size which has seven pockets.  Two of the pockets are thin - perfect for pens, pencils, or eyeliner.   It also has a little loop near the top so that I can attach my keys.

Oh, the little things that keep me happy and sane! I don't know why, but I just randomly look in my purse every now and then just to marvel at how organized it is now. I know - I'm a geek....

Purse-To-Go comes in four different sizes and a variety of colors. Find out more and get your own by visiting:
