Ok, florals always come back every spring and summer, so pull out last year’s florals from the back of the wardrobe – or go straight to this summer’s must-haves.
Start off with these Current/Elliott Stiletto Skinny Jeans in Haystack Floral – they’ll keep your legs dry, but are a firm nod to summer with their dusty hues. The muted floral pattern is subtle enough to pair with a pastel chiffon blouse for an elegant look, which is perfect for drinks on your friend’s rooftop terrace, or the barbecue that might end up indoors.
If you’re feeling brave, go pattern on pattern and find as many miss-matching floral T-shirts as you can. To stand out at all the indoor parties, scour through your local thrift store until you find an over-sized vintage floral blouse in bright, dark colours and tuck into the jeans.
Floral jeans aren’t just daytime/party wear either. The Current/Elliott stilettos come in vintage wildflower, which are ideal for sauntering around the office. Take Oscar de la Renta’s advice and make sure you’re wearing a flight floral perfume to match. Float around in a lightly scented breeze all day, and wear your hair loose to match.
If all the florals are too much for you, break them up with an abrupt clash. Try the Zoe Karssen Valley of the Dolls T-shirt for an edgy alternative. The slouchy tee is soft enough to work with the delicate pattern of the jeans, but the cute upside-down cult message is a fun contrast to the floral. Wear it tucked in, and pair with black lace up boots to stomp all over the spring/summer floral trends.
Another floral alternative is a simple shift dress. No one does a better shape for a classic shift than Stella McCartney, so try her Hawaiian print dress in chambray blue. The structured silhouette suits all body types, and the just-above-the-knee length makes it all-purpose. Team with heeled wedges in the sunshine, or follow in the steps of Kate Middleton with a pair of all-purpose nude court shoes for lady-like elegance.
