As much as I preach about beauty being on the inside and that we should focus on loving who we are fully - wrinkles and all - I have to accept that people are going to do what they want, wear what they want, and get cosmetic surgery. As I’ve mentioned before, my attitude towards towards plastic surgery has changed.
In the U.S., we are accustomed to people going to a doctor to fix their appearance. It’s acceptable and something that many people are not ashamed of. In other parts of the world, it’s still taboo to talk about it and women feel embarrassed that they’ve had work done.
However, I did read somewhere that more than half of British women intend to have plastic surgery. There has even been a rise in tummy tucks for men in the UK. It’s no wonder that cosmetic surgery London is becoming big business.
But just because something has become acceptable, does it still make it ok?
When I first met one of my friends, she was very open about her tummy tuck, boob job, and botox. It was then that I got my first test on whether or not I would accept her as my friend because she had these things done to her body. We’re still friends to this day.
However, I was having a conversation with a group of friends, and one friend had mentioned that she went and had fillers put in her face to smooth out the lines around her mouth. My mind started to judge... Why would she do that? Why can’t she just accept that she’s getting older and that these things happen as you age? I had to remind myself that this is her issue and not mine. I had to readjust my attitude and refocus on the positive things about her and not allow my ego to tell me that I was better than her because I’ve never had any work done.
It’s not my job to tell you what you can and cannot do with your body. I’m here to inspire you to simply love yourself and to stay focused on embracing all the positive aspects of who you are. Let’s get back to realizing who you truly are - a magnificent, magical, and beautiful human being.
