An Experience at Bellus Academy Beauty School

In my last post I talked about the different ways that you can save on hair services, and to show that you can get a good haircut even at a discount price, I got my hair done at a local beauty school called Bellus Academy.

I was a little hesitant at first, but I just wanted a simple haircut and highlights, so I thought that would be easy enough for a beauty school student.

Right before I went to my appointment, I completely changed my mind about the haircut - opting to chop off the long hair that I've had for a few years now. I was ready for a change. I also decided that I wanted a low-maintenance hair color, so after talking with a friend, I figured an ombre look would be best.

I also consulted with the student who did my hair, Vivi, and her instructor. They were both very knowledgeable and helped me make my decision. Apparently Vivi is the Ombre Queen at the school, so I felt completely confident that everything would turn out ok.

If was fun watching the students working on the mannequin heads. They looked like artists channeling creative energy at their easels. The whole vibe of the school was great.

When the big reveal came and Vivi was done with my hair, I was in complete shock at how short it was. Not in a bad way, but just shocked that I actually went through with it. It finally hit me in that moment that my hair was chopped off. I felt completely "light headed". I also fell in love with the color job. It's a dark copper brown on the bottom which graduates into my natural black color on the top.

Vivi blowed my hair out into a classic bob, but I've been giving it the messy, natural look by creating waves with my clip-free curler.

If I had gone to a regular salon to get these hair services done, it would have easily cost me over $100. At Bellus Academy the price is $67.50, but if it's your first time, you get 50% off. How's that for a deal?!?

There are three Bellus Academy campuses here in San Diego and one campus in Manhattan, Kansas.  For more information, visit:  www.bellusacademy.edu
