Dove's New Campaign Changed the Way I Look at the Selfie



All beauty and fashion bloggers enjoy taking selfies, right? Wrong.

I have a confession to make.

When I have to write up a blog post that consists of taking a selfie, I have to take a gazillion (Ok, maybe just 5-10) photos before I decide on one picture that I like. When I look at a picture of myself, I immediately look at my eyes to see if there are bags under them. 99.9% of the time there are bags, so I have to retake the picture at an angle that minimizes their appearance.

Dove’s new campaign has changed the way I think about the selfie. To a degree, I equated the selfie with being narcissistic. Really, who wants to see a picture of me everyday on Facebook or Instagram? I do understand, though, that people want to connect with you on a personal level, and a picture does that.

I think it’s great that the younger generation is confident and can express themselves in this way. The idea of the selfie is something I’m slowly getting used to. After all, the physical part of yourself is a representation of the beauty within - and why not share that with the world?
