Shoes That Will Never Fail You

Black flats with black and white dress
If there’s one type of shoe that is a staple in my closet, it’s a pair of black flats. I didn’t realize how important this shoe was to me until I started working in retail sales when standing up for 8 hours a day was the norm.

The beauty of black flats is that you can wear them with everything - I mean everything - whether it’s jeans, shorts, skirt, or dresses. Yeah, they could be considered boring, but I don't care. They're comfortable and that's all that matters to me. I tend to wear them out, so I end up buying a new pair every couple years. I actually should keep a few pairs and rotate them, though.

Pixi Glow Tonic Review

Pixi Glow Tonic Beauty Elixir
If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know I've been having issues with my skin, which used to be considered combination skin that has now turned into annoying as heck dry, flaky skin. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with getting older, but I guess I can't complain too much because I don't have to deal with breakouts anymore.

However, now that I am getting older, my skincare regimen has become just a tad bit more complex. Gone are the days of simply washing with soap and water and applying makeup. Caring for my skin has become a daily ritual with high hopes that these habits will pay off in the long run. I used to think that using a skin toner was a waste of time, besides it added one more step to a morning routine that I wanted to keep as simple as possible. Nowadays a skin toner is a must-have, and if it can help with exfoliating my skin that's a huge plus. Pixi's Glow Tonic does just that and more.

Underwear For Aunt Flow's Visit

Pink cotton panty
I don't know one woman who doesn't have a pair of special underwear (or two!) for when Aunt Flow comes for her monthly visit. You know what I'm talking about, right? It's the I'm-in-so-much-pain-because-of-cramps-that-I-can't-be-bothered-with-sexy underwear.

4 Things You Can Do So You Never Have to Diet Again

Dumbbells
These are part of my workout routine

"I don't believe in depriving myself of any food
or being imprisoned by a diet."
--Joely Fisher

There are tons of articles on the web that talk about the "best diet" for weight loss...blah, blah, blah. I'm tired of them all. I'm here to tell you that you can lose weight without ever starving yourself or denying yourself the food that you like. I know it's possible because I've been doing it all my life.

I've never once been on a "diet". Why would I do something that has "die" in it?!?

There is just way too much propaganda out there that promote diets. Granted, there are some people for various health reasons (diabetes, heart problems, etc.) who do need certain food restrictions, but for people who simply just want to lose weight for whatever reason, there is a better way to stay healthy and still eat what you want.

When April Showers Bring Out the Fall Outfit

Fountains at the Getty Center

I had forgotten that "April showers bring May flowers", so just when I was getting ready to put away the winter clothes and bust out the spring dresses, we get hit with rainstorms. Actually, I will probably still continue to wear all these clothes through spring, except for the boots.

Nail Art Inspiration: Black and White Mod

In high school my friends and I always wore black and white. Always. We were known as the "Mod Squad", so ever since then I've been in love with black and white. It could get boring, but when you spice it up with black and white nail art, you make it more fun! When I posted about the original mod glam last Friday, I was feeling inspired to create something unique to go with my black and white striped dress.

Tweet me or email me (maria@beautyiswithin.net) your black and white nails and I'll post them here!
